Ahhh, the holidays will be shortly be upon us and one of the most enjoyable parts of the holidays is the holiday baking!  The gobs and piles of homemade chewy cookies that you can’t wait to sink your teeth into!  Ah, happiness.  I am not sure if it’s my age talking, but Christmas is not about how many gifts you get, but rather its about family.  Spending time with your family during the holidays is such a precious thing that I always treasure.  Talking, sharing stories, and just being together is priceless.  For me, I don’t have much, so I tend to find myself making handmade gifts for the family.  Each year, I try to come up with something unique and special for each person and I love watching their faces as they open my handmade gift.  Ah, success…they smiled! Phew!   I would love to create one holiday, some really neat handmade necklaces with loving stamped messages in them, as this would be something that the recipients would treasure for sure!  Life is all about the little things that make you happy, not about how many things you get as those are all material things.  Enjoying the ones that surround you in your life, and giving them love unconditionally is what makes life all worth it.  Some people just don’t get it.  They spend their days worrying – about everything, and where does that get them?  Nowhere, except heartache.  Enjoy each and every day as if it was your last, enjoy life and the one you are with this holiday – why spend another minute complaining, arguing, or worrying as all this makes you is bitter.  So go make yourself and your loved one happy – give them a hug and tell them that you love them (and mean it) and let them know that you appreciate all that they have done for you throughout the year.  Remember, the little things mean a lot, but when you are a grouch all the time, it changes the people you are around.  Be nice & loving and love will be returned in the same manner.  If your head is in the clouds and you are constantly worrying about “everything”, then you are not paying any attention to the ones you love, the people that should matter the most to you.  Think about it.  Do you want to be a grouch or do you want to be loved?  It’s all up to you!

Holiday entertaining is a joyful time, so enjoy each and every minute of it – love the one you are with and happiness will abound!  Check out some of our holiday entertaining essentials at www.themesnthings.com

Christmas is my second favorite time of the year, other than Halloween, because I find myself getting all caught up in the Christmas music, wrapping presents ever so nice with great big bows, decorating the house, the scent of cinnamon in the oil burner, making Christmas cookies (and eating them too, of course), family get-togethers, and sharing a good glass of wine with your loved one.  But one of the best thing about Christmas is remembering some good ole childhood memories, and one that comes to mind is when my sister caught me unwrapping my presents when I was little and said that they were going to tell Mom & Dad.  Of course, the only way to get out of that situation was with a huge bribe.  (even though I paid dearly, for some reason I never forgot that childhood memory)  One of my favorite holiday traditions is to pick up a new ornament each year to put on the tree and every year thereafter, then your tree is filled with many memories.  Sharing the holidays with your family and loved one is the most precious gift of all.  Nothing compares to the love that is shared when you can feel it in your heart.  How do you make your holidays special?
